New trailer: “Total Recall”

A new trailer for Len Wiseman’s remake of the 1990 sci-fi action classic “Total Recall” has hit the web. Colin Farrell takes over for Arnold Schwarzenegger (what a switch) as Douglas Quaid, a lowly construction worker in the future who discovers that he might actually be a spy whose memories were erased. The production values look spectacular, and its encouraging to see Bryan Cranston play the villainous CEO, but the trailer suggests a fairly straightforward rehash. Of course, there could be unexpected twists, though complex and interesting storytelling hasn’t proved to be Wiseman’s forte as of yet. Interestingly, the script for the remake was co-penned by Kurt Wimmer, whose film “Equilibrium” borrowed a key plot element from the original “Total Recall.”

The film, which co-stars Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy, and a mutant women with three breasts, opens August 3.
