Lindsay Lohan to play Liz Taylor in Lifetime movie

Lindsay Lohan is set to play a famous, volatile woman with alcohol and drug problems. Do you think she can imagine what being an unstable addict is like?

Lohan has signed on to play Elizabeth Taylor in Liz and Dick, a Lifetime movie about the late movie star’s romance with English actor Richard Burton. The role represents the latest step in Lohan’s attempted comeback that doesn’t involve a nude photo spread.

Despite the TV credit, it will be a high profile role for Lohan, whose once promising career crashed and burned as her personal life spiraled out of control.

Taylor and Burton met on the set of the 1963 epic Cleopatra, which adjusted for inflation is the most expensive film in cinematic history. They left their spouses for one another, eventually divorced, then remarried, then divorced again. In other words, much more interesting fare than Lohan’s own relationship with Samantha Ronson.

Lohan’s work in the past few years has been sporadic. She starred in the 2009 comedy Labor Pains, which debuted as a TV movie, and had a small role in Robert Rodiguez’s action film Machete. Lohan had been set to star as Linda Lovelace in the biopic Inferno, though she was fired after missing a mandatory progress hearing for a 2007 DUI arrest. She had since been slated to appear in a film about mobster John Gotti with John Travolta, though the project never reached shooting stages.

So far, there is no mention of who will play Burton or the film’s air date. If history is any indication, they should begin filming as soon as possible while the talent is still capable of making it to work.
