In a move that shocked two or three people worldwide, Disney has announced that work on a sequel to The Avengers is in the works.
The announcement was made in a press conference by Disney CEO Bob Iger. The film broke box office records last weekend with an incredible $207 million domestic opening. So far, the film has grossed $700 million worldwide.
Alas, it seems likely the wait will be a few years. May 2013 will seen the release of Iron Man 3, followed by Thor 2 in November, with Captain America 2 hitting theaters in April 2014. Additionally, a new film featuring the Hulk is being mulled, with possibilities for individual movies for virtually every other Avengers character with a speaking part.
