De Niro, Stallone to step back in ring for “Grudge Match”

De Niro and StalloneTwo iconic actors revered for their iconic performances as now iconic boxers are looking to step back into the ring together.

Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone are reportedly in talks to star in “Grudge Match” for Warner Bros. The film is a comedy about two retired boxers looking to settle an old score with one final fight.

Stallone is perhaps best known for creating and playing Rocky Balboa, the affable, iron-willed boxer who proves nigh-invulnerable in the face of seemingly superior competition. De Niro won an Oscar for playing Jake LaMotta, the legendary boxer with a mercurial temper, in “Raging Bull.”

It will be interesting to see what sort of shape each man gets in, though, as Stallone still has a bodybuilder’s physique in his sixties, whereas De Niro resembles a regular human being.

Peter Segal, director of films such as “Tommy Boy” and “Anger Management,” is set to direct. Several writers, including “Entourage” creator Doug Ellin, have worked on the script. Mark Steven Johnson, Bill Gerber, and Carrie Gillogly will be producing. Filming is expected to begin next year.
