Friday Box Office: Think Like a Man big winner

Kevin Hart stars in THINK LIKE A MAN.Just as I predicted in this weekend’s Box Office Beat, Think Like a Man, the African-American targeted rom-com based on Steve Harvey’s bestselling self-help book, was a surprise #1, exceeding almost everybody’s expectations (including the studio’s). What even I failed to foresee, however, is that the film would amass over $12 million on opening day alone, on track for a $30m+ weekend total. I smell a new franchise for director Tim Story, whose 2002 Barbershop spawned a sequel and a spin-off.

Also performing exceptionally well was the Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Lucky One, starring Zac Efron, which amassed an impressive $9.1m opening day for what should be a $25m+ weekend. These great numbers will more than compensate for the slight downturn at the box office last weekend. Rounding out the top three was The Hunger Games, which continues to be a juggernaut and will coast pass $350m domestic this weekend. Check out the full top 10 after the jump…
