As overseas box office totals for The Avengers pour in, it’s obvious that Disney will once again want to see the Avengers assemble.
Nikki Finke over at Deadline reports that The Avengers, which has already debuted overseas, has grossed a stunning $260.5 million so far. Finke further estimates that the film could gross as much as $585 million worldwide by this Sunday, bolstered by wide releases in Russia, China, and the U.S.
Any doubt that once existed as to the box office potential of a variety of lesser-known Marvel properties has been put to rest. Fans of The Avengers won’t have to wait long for more adventures with the team, as new installments in the Iron Man and Thor are due next year, with a Captain America sequel following in 2014. Furthermore, plans for a new Hulk installment are in motion for a 2015 release, and there are already murmurings about solo films for Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye.
The Avengers will hit screens everywhere in the U.S. this Friday.
